Not my tweet, but curious if anyone here knows what happened. Seems so unlikely, but possible via geolocation? iPhone 12.
Where around Höfn í Hornafirði?

What does "NATO observatory" mean?

Are there any other pictures people have taken at this tourist attraction? And with what device?

If this was a deliberate geolocation thing in iPhone cameras, then why there and nowhere else?

I think I found a few rare old pictures online https://twitter.com/pandrewhk/status/1533366856635281408

But nothing recent. The innocent explanation would be — it's really desolate and the iPhone glitch was just a glitch.

However she mentions it's a tourist attraction.

She mentions it was in the distance of the tourist attraction.

If infofarmer is correct and it's Hofn Air Station (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hofn_Air_Station) then the tourist attraction might be Stokksnes, which Google Maps describe as "Commonly photographed headland with a dramatic mountainscape, black sands & a radar station."

A commenter said "You don't own your content if it's stored on a cloud." - did the photos disappear from the cloud, or from the phone's storage as well?
Presumably this? https://www.facebook.com/groups/997443017293595/about/

«This Group is about the radar squadron at Hofn, Island a one time remote tour. Hofn Air Station (ADC/NATO ID: H-3) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located 231.4 miles (372.4 km) east of Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. ... The 933d AC&W Squadron was inactivated on 30 June 1960, being replaced by the 667th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron. The 667th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last assigned to the Air Forces Iceland, stationed at Hofn Air Station, Iceland. It was inactivated on 30 September 1988. From 1951-1988, the unit was a General Surveillance Radar squadron providing for the air defense of Iceland and the North Atlantic.»

The only installation in the south-east is a long-range radar station, one of four in Iceland used for monitoring flights over the North-Atlantic. It's partly funded by NATO (and they use data from it), but it's owned and run by the Icelandic Coast Guard. You can walk up and knock on the door and they'd probably ask you in for coffee.

I hate these attention seeking fabricated social posts. It was build by nato got everything military stripped out and is now a civilian ATC side there are hundreds of pictures and videos on the net...the most you will find if you search for the Icelandic names. And as you can see from the recent pictures on google maps it's mainly ruins left

It's either fake or a glitch but looking at the rest of her profile it's an attention seeking fabrication... influencer myths.
