Ask HN: Firefox Updates – Too Aggressive?

I'm all about evergreen updates to keep security issues at bay, particularly in browsers.

However, Firefox's update behavior seems too aggressive to me. I'm regularly browsing with a private session, only to have Firefox score an own goal by surprise updating and then cutting off the network connection to force an immediate restart, a dance that loses every private tab.

It seems very user-hostile to have zero control over the application simply ceasing to perform its sole function.

Security always has some caveat or price to pay. I rarely need to have a browser working for more than 10 minutes, although I can see why it would be a pain if you’re writing an essay/letter/blogpost where these interruptions would be a hassle
