They still haven't fixed an issue where when you expand on a message thread in the bell menu, sometimes replies don't show up - just a couple inches of empty space between the "Hide <number> replies" link, and the comment below it.

It sounds a bit similar to the above.

The only fix for the Youtube comments system is for parent comments also no longer to appear.
For me comments are visible, I can make comments, and the comments are below the video.

I have a 2560x1200 monitor, Firefox browser, Debian 10.

It is fixed now. Funny enough the redesign is just taking YouTube livestream UI and using it for regular YouTube comments.
The worst for me is the description on the sidebar. Reading the description now is a pain in the ass.
When the screen is narrow, the designer chose to just hide the date of the video. It's a major inconvenience
They also removed dates from many videos so that you can't always tell how relevant or topical a video is, and now when you're free browsing they will typically recommend similar videos from smaller channels to you in the list 3rd from the top.

So far I haven't clicked any of those links but I suppose it's beneficial to get new channels, but at the same time I've already been suggested at least 2 channels that espouse right wing hate rhetoric so either my view history doesn't know my preferences or there's a lot of money to be made from those videos for Youtube and they're trying to wring every penny they can out of me.
