The fix is a software update which the company is expected to start next month. Owners can also take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership to do the update.

Man, I hope the software fix is to slow or modulate the flow so as to avoid overload/overheating the circuitry. I really, really hope it's not just a patch to increase the temperature where warnings are reported. I've met both kinds of developers...
Pretty difficult to get a “wallpaper” fix through the processes at an OEM like Ford. (I work there but I’m not involved in this issue.) Automakers have lots of experience making painful and expensive fixes to resolve recall issues, and NHTSA is watching.
Hopefully watching a bit closer than the FAA was watching Boeing.
