Show HN: Thoughts on Digital Sticky Notes

7 points by afont ↗ HN
All the apps that allow you to put stickys on a board to manage progress are missing the point. Tasks to do tasks dont necessarily lead you to accomplishing your goals. I built a tool with my team that makes users align all work to their goals. No way around it. We call them missions. Let me know your thoughts! Roast it, love it, be confused by it...let us know! https://twigflo.com

So a lot of the philosophy and marketing puff here resonates with me - but I'm not seeing a demo, and I'm not able to login without a Google account?
Going to update for more login options. Definitely need to upload the demo and "the why". Thanks for taking a look and stay tuned!
I agree with csw-001. The visual makes it look like an elongated form of mind mapping, but the text seems to suggest there is something more there. What that is, I cannot tell.

The landing page looks good. Maybe you need an animation that gives a sample workflow.

For example, I can't tell if you are overloading the word "mission" when you talk about your company mission and whatever the users' "mission diagrams" might happen to be, because the usage feels different.

Thanks Ksaj! Really practical feedback. We'll get some of those changes incorporated

Here's my feedback... this is a fairly obnoxious post, which is okay if you have a great product to back it up... but I can't see a great product. All I see is a basic landing page with a single screenshot and some vague feature descriptions.

It's also a huge ask to get people to signup with their Google account (to presumably use the product?) especially when there's; no links, no video, no information, no docs, no about-us, no support

Anyway, that's just my brutal first impression...

Really appreciate the honesty and I toned back the abrasive tone (late night HN). Getting the demo materials and docs prepared. Would love to get feedback next week when we have those on our homepage. Thanks for taking a look!
From the copy it sounds like a feature set of Hansoft. Unable to verify though.
Took a look. Is it more of drawing dependencies in a gantt view?
That's a different take on task management apps, using directed graphs for tasks looks like a cool concept tbh.

Traditional project management implies this type of a graph relationship(task depends on/critical path).

UI on phone (android) breaks or is unusable -- will probably have a look at it on desktop later.

Wasn't able to zoom-in/out on the graph, should probably add the feature if it isn't there already.

All the best!

On desktop you can zoom by scrolling the mouse.
Yeah only supporting desktop atm. Thanks for taking a look!
Thanks for the delightful feedback dmingod666! That's exactly right and our intent. We hope that this also serves as a knowledge retention strategy since all tasks are mapped out and you can use the latest and greatest from past learnings.

Currently we dont support phone or tablet. Also dealing with issues in windows. To be addressed (bootstrapping...)

Have a real readable screenshot, everyone: https://snipboard.io/pVdYeH.jpg

From their sample project. All nodes open this modal when clicked, at least those I tried.

Thanks for the screenshot. What do you mean by all nodes open this modal?
Put screenshots or product animations next to each selling point to explain them better
Thanks cloudking! Can you explain what you mean? Gifs within the app to demonstrate the usage?
Gifs of the app on the website to explain how the features work
Landing page just shows a thumbnail sized image of a mind map, which doesn't seem like anything new. The idea of aligning your to do items to larger goal is also not new... OKRs, MBOs, RPM, V2MOM, etc all do this.

I don't see enough here to make me want to sign up for something to kick the tires. What makes this unique?

More feedback...

The first big key point on the landing page is to "visualize your projects" and there are no visualizations of what this means.

Retaining knowledge... how is his going to "capture" things for me? Surely it can't watch what the team is doing an intelligently document every time someone deviates from the plan or has an idea they don't record?

You mention how the product makes you start with your mission and work out from there, yet your landing page lists your mission last, like it's an after thought. If you're all about making the mission the first thing for projects, maybe lead with the mission on your site.

Your mission talks about it being interactive and moving as fast as your projects. Being able to see how fast things move (a video) would go a long way.

Thanks al_borland. Appreciate you writing out your honest feedback.

The landing page could use a lot of updates - completely agree. We're drawing that up now.

I've used OKRs and RPMs. The way Ive used them is within slides which are pretty static. I have yet to find a great way to visualize them and make them more effective / part of the process.

Retaining knowledge: Its hard to piece together project plans, kan bans, statuses to understand how past team members accomplished a project (mission). The goal of this is to retain those steps, steps that become more efficient over time, in a branching structure.

I love the comment about putting mission at the top to stick with our products vision. Thanks for recommending that.

Video is on its way! Stay tuned.

Thanks again - cheers!

Other posters have already demolished the original post so I will refrain from commenting on it directly, but I will say the following:

The main value I get from paper sticky notes is that I stick them to my monitor, and they become a blatant physical reminder to attend whatever is written on the note. And if you ignore things for too long you eventually start losing screen real estate.

Digital sticky notes are useless - a half-baked imitation of both paper notes and real issue tracking systems.

I think digital sticky notes have a use but it isn’t for reminders. At work we use Miro and the sticky notes for group planning. It’s very effective to have everyone sticking ideas in to a board and being able to arrange them.

But I agree with everything you said. I moved away from check boxes in a notes app where everything had its own page and now I use a physical note book where everything is time sequential rather than sorted in to topics.

Now I never forget anything as it’s all on one page sitting on my desk always.

Thanks for taking the time to write this out waste_monk. I also use physical notes because theyre in the physical and cant avoid them. We're looking to give users a tool that anchors them to a goal rather than simply saying "lets do this now and hope it leads me in the right direction."

"Tasks to do tasks dont necessarily lead you to accomplishing your goals. I built a tool with my team that makes [tasks to do tasks] . . . "
Thanks for taking a look at the post!
I played with it for a while, I believe it could improve its user experience. The first button of the hammer to the left doesn't work. It is not clear what each icon from the left means. I did found the documentation, but it would be nice to have it more at hand, its hidden. Also couldn't draw links between the boxes, I was lazy but couldn't figure it out intuitively. I would add some buttons to the boxes to draw links between them, like Miro does. Just some observations, found it interesting though. I am curious about the stack you used to build it.
Not sure if the reply will go through since its been flagged. Thanks for taking the time to explore the app. The UX is a priority of ours in terms of highest on the list of upcoming improvements. Happy you found it interesting!
First impression:

- Site took 19 seconds for DOMContentLoad - 55 seconds for Finish on a 600Mbps connection - 1.7MB of javascript for a landing page - Non-refundable billing at start of month/year - Twigflo does not warrant that the Service is free of viruses or other harmful components. Seriously?

Sorry, but there is no way I will sign-in, added the site to my blocked hosts.

Thanks for taking a look sangupta! We're working towards data encryption and bettering our performance. Cheers!
