Ask HN: Should I prepare to get laid off?

1 points by is-is-odd ↗ HN
I start a new grad job in 3 weeks. The company went public 2 years ago, their stock exploded, but has since cratered. They recently announced a hiring freeze on most non-critical roles.

I’m scared. Should I start interviewing again? I haven’t interviewed/done Leetcode in 6+ months.

Are new grads easy targets for layoffs?

If you're in tech, you need to constantly be prepared to get laid off.
Were you around during the last recession in the field? I am just wondering your experience
I would say yes. However, I would say be flexible if you need to get a job outside of tech to survive do it and volunteer or try to get side gigs if you can.

I worked as a janitor for a year when everything was crap.
