Batteries should only be used to get the car to and from the the charged roads. This tech will allow for cars to be produced with sub 100 mile ranges, making them lighter and cheaper.
I always thought this was the next step in EVs. Plugging in EVs at electric gas stations is using new technology in an old way (https://www.bbc.com/news/business-40673694).
edit- It would probably be better to have the charging tech separate from the road, like something placed on top, or on the side of the ev lane, so existing roads could still be used.
