Too much process, too many meetings, too little real work.
Aren't you from automotive? Because I was leaving from there from exactly same reasons + another PITA were endless and pointless training sessions - Lean, 5S, managing, manufacturing, ... and all of that despite the fact that we were only software branch which never had any access to production.
Nah, I just had a bad experience at a "mid-sized" company that still called itself a startup 10+ years after founding.
Health destroyed by stress. I can be proud of some things we did; but looking back on it i should've chosen "Life" over "work" a lot more often.
Being promoted to middle management.
My old manager was tech who eventually moved into management. She's very good at organizing things and working with the tech team. Her replacement came from a professional project management background and was a huge micro-manager.
Got invited to work directly for my client with a better salary, more vacation and more opportunities in general.
Boredom. It's always boredom. Every time.
The company decided to focus on one market and hired many people. Due to that I stopped doing interesting research and development but more boring and easy source code pissing, with very little freedom and responsibilities.
Got an offer that doubled my salary.
From what to what?
From "Newbie at small company" to "Engineer with a hard-to-find skill at BigCorp".
I'm talking about salary: How much did you make in Company A then Company B?
The two biggest reasons were severe burnout and private equity acquisition. I could see the company "tightening the belt", so I knew I had to leave before the cuts come. I kind of want to strike out on my own, and I'm not sure how to do that, but I guess I'll figure it out.
