This seems like a great way to ruin the morale of the people who are still working there, as they now deal with the fact that they could be laid off in the next three months but have no way of knowing for sure.
I would imagine a lot of tesla workers are freshening up their resumes and looking for new opportunities in light of this
Are fords engineers unionized? if not, you might be comparing apples and oranges. None of the Tesla layoffs so far have effected hourly positions, and they are still hiring plenty for people who actually build cars/packs/panels. The layoffs were engineering/design/HR/admin/management/etc.
