Berkeley startup (YC S11) is hiring its first user experience designer

We're an unlaunched startup from the most recent Y Combinator batch that is working on changing how a $200 billion industry prices their product. Our smartphone based solution is vastly better than the current approach. The impact we can have is analogous to what the introduction of credit scores did to the financial services industry 30 years ago. The core technology was developed by the founders as part of our research at UC Berkeley. We've been funded by investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Y Combinator and others.

We're a 4 member team and are now hiring our first full time user experience designer. Though one of our goals as a company is to always work on very hard technical problems, we know from experience that good technology is often worthless without a great user experience. We deeply appreciate the value of good design and you will have a big say in what we build and the future of the company.

What we're looking for:

* Experience with user research.

* Experience with the iterative design process - research, design, prototype <-> test.

* Interaction / interface design of the product.

* Strong prototyping skills - low fidelity and high fidelity (Paper, Balsamiq, Keynote, Photoshop etc.)

* Deliver high fidelity renderings of interfaces for development.

* A strong portfolio of past work.

* A bias towards shipping the product.

It would be great if:

* you have experience designing for smartphones

* you can take your high fidelity mockups and actually convert them into working prototypes (HTML, CSS or on smartphones)

* you have a background in Human Computer Interaction

A market salary, equity, health insurance and relocation are a given. We're happy to give the right person a lot more equity than what the typical 5th team member would get.

Write to us at ucbstartup@gmail.com to learn more about the company. Please include links to your portfolio / projects and tell us a bit about yourself.

The job is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
