I agree, but like arguing about whether the 21st century New Year's Eve party should be on Dec 31 1999 or Dec 31 2000, it's for the cognoscenti now and not the masses. Unless we can get Wired or Reuters on board.
I think the points in the article are all very good except for the conclusion: cheap and easy web hosting can't change the current situation, because of the number of people without a technical background (1000 to 1, as mentioned in the article). Being very cheap will never be enough if your competition is for free forever. Also, registering an account and starting to write right away will always be easier than registering a domain and clicking through a setup wizard of some small web host.
It's also interesting to see this stance being hosten on a Tumblr blog. And I'm very surprised by how inaccessible Tumblr is on mobile.
