It seems that Wikipedia is testing their new design. This new design only applied for few languages. Few that I know so far are Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese, and Portuguese.

Mixed feelings with it. I see they are trying to better use the empty space to balance content vs other elements in the UI.
However, I think the focus on the left menu is unnecessary. The content feels more compact instead of more readable. In fact, I would revisit if the menu can be changed and let the content use the full width.
