Due to the fact that it is based on (relatively frequently updated) OpenStreetMap data, its data density and depth is really really good and allows for quite obscure POI searches like ping pong tables, barbecue/fire pits, geographical features like valleys, etc.
Mapy.cz is great and my go-to app for outdoors mapping and tracking hikes and bike rides. It's worse than Google Maps for search and listing, but that's fine.
I'd love if something could be done for open street maps to try and create a real Google-competitor for listings, reviews etc.
I absolutely love this map and I'm using is frequently for kayaking, trekking and bike trips planning and during the trips as well - only thing missing is the social aspect of google maps - photos and comments for locations
Google maps became really unpleasant to use for me after they changed rendering/color scheme - I'm aware that it was meant to improve maps readability for people with different color perception but for me current color scheme and flat, bland map is off-putting.
I used them in the past when travelling in Czech. Didn't know they have global coverage. But if the data is just pulled from OSM (is it?) the country should not matter. Of course alwaays dependent on the local OSM community.
I use en.mapy.cz for a couple of years now... Great topographic maps (with forrest trails, etc.) and offline download (so they are working fast even without good connection in outdoors)... Much, much more useful for me then Google or Apple Maps. And not so bloated as Google Maps.
City details (ATMs, restaurants, gas stations etc.) are also decent in my area... And car nav works quite well...
Great app for discovery of interesting places nearby, especially while walking/hiking/riding a bike. But search is quite bad. Also maps are often loading slowly, it happens that you zoom in just a little bit and entire map is gone and you need to keep waiting for it to appear
Yep. It has really cool hiking maps. Especially in Europe.
Plus it is nice to use a non-Google product these days. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia we are lucky to have a company (Seznam.cz) that is able to come up with competitive products and sustain ~50% market share against Google.
I'm using it exclusively now for over 4 years. I was shocked that maps for hiking are usually more detailed than in google - for example on Isle of Skye.
Over 2 years it is also absolutely fine to use it even for cars. Well... At least here in Czechia.
Yes, Mapy (Czech for "maps") is good and I do use it. I don't like the UI much but it's worth it for finding specific street addresses here, where it's significantly better than GMaps, and for walking/bicycling directions.

Their apps are also just overall very good, esp. for hiking.

All the comments are positive for an ad riddled czech maps site?
