Prohibition, the Wars on Poverty, Drugs, Immoral Music ... not hard to find examples that match this analysis.
"grassroots" is a term that gets used more often than observed to be real, of poltical activists. For me it means they're people personally affected by their issue. They're the fringe of the "activist" world, always changing, hardly ever effective, but far more fun to work with than the professionals.
The author has successfully argued against all of society and every group-mediated advancement ever. It doesn't take a whole lot of thought to figure out that the idea that these things are not worth investing time in does not hold water. As such, a reader must conclude that the author actually has not spent a whole lot of time considering the subject matter deeply.
In February 2010 during inauguration of President of Ukraine there were no more than dozen of us, protesters and political activists, surrounded by no less than five hundred of the riot police goons. We knew the president would prepare and weaken the country to be taken by Russia.
You don't think "what can I do alone?" You assume you are the only one knowing the truth.
In the end we were right. Personally, I would choose being wrong back than any day.
