I've seen on many other sites (especially on Mac sites) that people really don't like the idea and rather install an outdated macOS. They call ChromeOS spyware too.
Old, yes, but I wouldn't say that's an "ancient" computer. I'm sure it can deal with Linux and Windows pretty decently. Even today, cheap chromebooks are sold with a quarter of those specs.
