I feel like this is an excellent example of what the Hugo awards are about these days. If someone were to craft a piece specifically targeting that award, I feel like this is exactly what one would craft. I bet it wins.
I hope it does too, unless one of the other submissions is better, in which case it’d be damn good.
Edit: I’m rereading your post and not sure if the tone is complimentary like I originally thought. Text can be hard to read and parse. Are you advocating for the story, or saying that Hugo’s are not worthwhile?
Neither, actually. I was not trying to offer commentary on the merit (or lack thereof) to the type of material that the Hugos seem likely to award, merely that this story is, in both form and content, an extraordinarily well-targeted example (whether targeted intentionallly or not)

I don’t know much about the awards, I just think of it as a signal that something might be worth reading.
