Hardly even a flamewar. Just people discussing technical opinions of language design, which in hindsight seem parochial and limited as well as prissy and uptight.

These debates exist, like editor wars, because there's more variation in how people think than anybody wants to acknowledge. Some folks find C an excellent way to express their ideas, some prefer PHP; regardless of all the valid discussion you can have about "flaws" in either language the strengths are in how they fit peoples' minds.

I assume this has popped up again because Thomas Lord, who was involved, died recently. It's ancient history, but promoted unjustified prejudices against Tcl which still persist.
