Ask HN: Scanning Packages for Malware (Mac)

Hey so I have been wanting to download packages .pkg for various GarageBand plugins, audio units whatever. I’m new to Mac but since these packages are downloaded from the web not the App Store, how do I check/scan for malware etc? Last thing I want is a plug-in doing dodgy things. Thanks in advance
