It’s really surprising to me that there are 14,000 employees at this startup company. They make a single truck. I hope they are able to be successful but I suspect there will be many more layoffs.
There is a single vehicle that you see on the road, today. They have the R1T, R1S, and a platform for Amazon delivery vehicles. While the R1T and R1S are based on the same “skateboard” plenty of the vehicle doesn’t overlap. Their hiring page also shows a large autonomy group.
Your point likely still stands, 14k is a large team for this. But it’s not as egregious as if they only had a single vehicle not equipped for L3+ autonomy.
