> It took Russia some 8 years from Crimea to conclude that it was impossible to practice politics with US, and to invade rest of Ukraine.
No, it didn't. It invaded Eastern Ukraine around the same time as Crimea, deployed Wagner there in 2014, and has been continuously involved there from then on.
China concluded that it was impossible to practice war with the US at the time, so they resorted to completely ineffective threats.
Mao said that you advance with the point of the bayonet. If you meet resistance, you back off. China under Mao wasn't peaceful; they just met resistance that they knew they couldn't overcome.
I guess you could say that China had an accurate perception of reality, and Russia had an inaccurate one, which is... something. That perception led China to not shoot, and Russia to shoot, but they both wanted to run over anybody who got in their way if they could.
I agree that laughing at China isn't a wise action, but I don't see how Russia's actions in Ukraine were hinged on diplomacy with the US. It seemed like the European NATO countries in particular were a key factor in failing to deter further aggression from Russia in Ukraine.
I hope that the global support from the "free world" that Ukraine is experiencing now will reach Taiwan if it comes to that.
