Hate buying clothes online; have to return 80% for fit/color. Don't like buying books online; sick of getting new books with mashed corners. Don't trust buying food online; frequent past-dating and damage.
I can't think of any offline shopping experience that is bad enough that I would seriously prefer doing it online, unless it's to avoid a drive across town.
What am I shopping for? A new phone - give me the Apple store a few hours after the new iPhone is announced so I can order it (or 1 generation behind) and have it magic its way to my front porch in a couple days
Stuff that i "always" get and doesn't matter so much about timeliness (shelf-stable staples, paper products, etc) - probably gonna be online (or combined with an in-person trip to Costco etc)
Clothes? Have I bought them before? Yes? Order them online over and over. No? Probably gonna have to go in person to try them on (ugh).
Books? I prefer in-person, but often get them online
In short, I don't have a global preference, but do have preferences based on the specific category/item in question

When you shop — someone is making a good money. And it's not you.
