According to CNN sources Russian government officials requested adding Vadim Krasikov to Griner/Whelan prisoner swap ("Krasikov was convicted in December of murdering a former Chechen fighter, Zelimkhan "Tornike" Khangoshvili, in Berlin's Kleiner Tiergarten in 2019 and sentenced to life in prison.")
The big question I've had from since I first heard about this is how did she get the cartridges to Russia in the first place? There's no way it's legal to bring them on a plane from the US.
I'd imagine the Olympic charter flights have a much different security policy from your local Delta Airlines. They're probably more focused on securing the athletes than scouring through their bags.
I didn't know that passengers on chartered flights did not have to go through airport security, or that she was on an Olympic chartered flight. Everything I've seen has simply said she was there to play during the off-season, not anything to do with the Olympics.
Less time that some folk get for possession. Hardly seems fair that a death merchant is going to be traded to save her, when we have our own prisoners doing more time for lesser offences and no one bothers to save them.
