Ask HN: Dangerous to drive with phone to navigate set to walk mode unaware?

This happened to me today with a passenger trying to help me find my way, and I was shocked how beguiling this predicament found me. I actually think someone could get hurt by making the same oversight.

Even relying too much on any navigational aid can be harmful. I've been in foreign cities using Google Maps or Waze and they've had streets marked as one-way but the wrong way, so I almost went on that street if I hadn't spotted the signs.

Even when using the correct mode, or whatever, you should always look at the available signage, and you should be in the clear.
