If "the world" is news/culture/controversy, and "keeping up" is standing in the hurricane of ad supported hot takes. Then I completely agree.
One day I decided that being ignorant of what is happening on Twitter is actually good. I felt bad when someone says, "did you hear about X" and I didn't. But X always changes and nothing builds on anything else. The purpose is just a feeling that something is changing and you need to know. Dopamine.
I simply ignore what other people are addicted to. Because they lie about their addiction and call it information.
