Aside from an expression of self, your appearance is a signal to others. How you present above the neck is part of that signal. We're always sending signals. And obviously always receiving them. Signaling is what humans do.

Haircuts are gender neutral. How and when people use that signal is left to the individual. Or maybe we should all shave our heads in order to avoid offending others with our choices?
