I chose to ignore this because author is an imposter psychologist.

The hidden assumption in all these self help blogs is that there are no imposters. So, if you feeling like an imposter, its actually just mean people on twitter or stackoverflow.

Where are the, "i actually was an imposter and quit and now i'm happy doing something where i'm competent." those people exist.

That's one factor, certainly.

I tend to see imposter syndrome as a 'Rite of Passage'. People get elevated to levels where they are put on a par with somebody else that is clearly better at something. So they feel inadequate. As they learn more, they too will reach the stage where they will know what those others did. At that point, the imposter syndrome should fade away.

For some though, as you point out, the imposter syndrome will remain as a coping mechanism for the insecure, even though it is no longer actually necessary.
