HN Needs to add URL Sub Domains for Google

117 points by samirahmed ↗ HN
Is there anyway that HN could add subdomains to domain that is displayed near titles.

Otherwise I can't tell if this links to Google or to some random person's Google Plus account

For example,

The best data scientists are curious and entrepreneurial (google.com)

Determine someone's height using Google (google.com)

The first goes to Google Plus, the second goes to Google Search, I would think that I am not the only one who is mislead...

This happens with <username>.github.com as well and often confuses me.
Indeed, this would be great for filtering out random weblogs as well.
I generally skip "(google.com)" articles because of this.
I agree. I get confused by this too. When I see google.com in the link title, I never know where it might go. Maybe G+, maybe a search, maybe docs, etc. I've seen it all on HN.
I agree, but this should be submitted as a comment on the Feature Requests story (see link at the bottom of HN pages).

In fact, this request has already been submitted, so you should just vote it up.

While we're at it, please browse through the feature requests in general and give some upvotes: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=363

There's still no indication that the "email" field on your profile isn't public, leading to a lot of confusion for HN members that want to connect. Recent examples of people commenting that their email is in their profile (it's not):

If you'd like to see something as simple as "(This isn't visible to anyone else, add contact info in the "About" section above if you want others to be able to reach you." added to the email field, upvote here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1017933

Right, because upvoting a two year old comment will get a reaction from PG. I think nobody cares about improving HN because news.arc is an unreadable pile of code in a most obscure programming language.
This would help for apple.com as well- I can never tell whether it's a link to an App Store product, or an official Apple page.
Why are subdomains omitted in the first place? I don't see any downside to including more than 2 domain segments for all links posted on HN.
