The user pontifier went semi-viral on a corner of twitter after posting about buying up 75 houses and a 17 acre warehouse in Pine Bluff AK. I started looking into his old social media posts, which tell a million dollar story about 3 different start-ups in various states of chaos. He seems like a very genuine and intelligent guy, but read a bit before you praise his business acumen on here.
The cost of doing business is a lot more than the cost of buying a former business premises. Across use, disuse, and re-use planning and zoning regulations can change. I live in an apt where my current fire alarms are legal for 7 more years but in 1 years time if I sell, I have to up-rate even though they have 6 more to run.
Now, translate that into industrial scale re-zoning, re-rating, power, light, water reticulation.
I like his spirit. But he's naivety is .. well its the root cause of most of his downstream trouble.
I live in a fully developed western economy and 12 years ago when my employer took ownership of a light industrial space to become our offices, it included having to deal with the squatter who was "camping" in the carpark for months and months. This stuff happens all the time.
In the period between this being a 24/7 noise machine, and going empty shell, It is very likely land use around the factory has changed. If the new neighbours established better relationships with planning, they can make simple process like re-certification for noise control go on for years.
A friend has a telescope in his back garden from when his house sat amongst surrounding fields of corn. They are now a piggery.. he doesn't use the telescope any more, or go outside much in summer.
