You may not get paid FAANG salaries, but you will have a job that pays well that you do not have to constantly relearn every 2 years.
I was brought into the data scene about 15 years ago by a mentor who explained that the work was fun, the same skills from `92 are still valid today, and the pay was great. I've found it all to be true. A bit of on-call at times, but nothings perfect.
I feel like SQL is a bit of a categorically different thing to the others on this list. It's best to have python (or another language) and SQL, if you're going to be in a 'coder' role.
If you're in an analyst type role, with SQL as your primary language, then SQL and Py/R is also a good thing.
