Imagine if we could take that number back in time.

That’s 20 million people if everyone gets it
Back to when? This was first published October 2020. And it was based on pre-Delta/Omicron wave numbers so the amount of time this was valid was pretty low.

But that's also a huge number. That's 1 in 400 people.

> Imagine if we could take that number back in time.

What would you differently if a couple of years ago you knew that the public health precautions put in place followed a couple of miracle vaccines that appeared out of the blue led to an inferred death rate of 0.27%? Would you press harder for vaccination and to follow basic higiene and health precautions such as wearing a mask?

Vaccines came out after this study.
according to the study, that is "corrected to 0.23%", and once you exclude locations with exceptionally poor medical care, you get a value below 0.2%.

In other words, we locked down the world and destroyed our free society for influenza-with-a-different-name.

Just like the folks who were unpersoned in 2020 said we were.

Seems like yet again, the difference between "conspiracy theory" and "the truth" is "about 18 months"

That matches what we were being told 18 months ago though.

As I understood it, the problem was with the number of people being infected, because of the lack of any existing immunity.

Ie, most of the population has some degree of immunity to the flu, so it kills people in much lower numbers each year. COVID was going to…and did…infect large numbers all at once which would wreak havoc on the health systems of countries and cause the death rate of all caused to skyrocket.

It should. This study only covers data from Jan-Sept. 9th, 2020. It was written then. It does not, for instance, cover any errors in recorded deaths since then.

And even at that rate, it crippled our healthcare system. Huge staffing issues remain. It has been absolutely brutal for everyone employed in the hospitals. Many doctors and nurses have quit.
