While I disagree with Desmit's analysis on who to hold accountable, I do find his thoughts on the formation interesting.
Looking like someone posted this article in exactly the wrong place.
These are the kind of reactionary political talking points that I'd hear on Joe Rogan. The author makes all kinds of accusations that seem unfairly characteristic of actual events and provides no references.

Just to pull out a two quick examples here: "people can become so radically blind [by pandemic government recommendations] and continued to buy into a narrative so utterly absurd" and "It went so far that, at one point, they counted all deaths as corona deaths, including people who had died of, say, heart attacks."

These both seem way misrepresented. The first quote makes a statement that only what I assume he means the basic health mandates (like masks) and the few brief lockdowns during the height of the covid deaths where "so utterly absurd" to be believed in. What?

The second quote I can only assume he's talking about counties counting heart attack rates above the average that ALSO had covid. These are the numbers I've seen coming out of countries since nearly the start of the pandemic. I have healthy friends in their 30s hospitalized and nearly pass from Covid... it's more than reasonable to count comorbidities here when they are above averages.

What bothers me the most is the attitude that "mass formation" is innately something sinister. If there's a fire in the building and leaders told everything to go (isolate) outside where it's safe... is that also an example of Orwell’s pigs controlling the masses for self serving measures? I'll add that Orwell was indeed against Totalitarianism, but he was absolutely pro mass collective action and socialism. https://thewire.in/books/remembering-george-orwell-the-socia...

Sometimes I wonder if modern neo-totalitarians are the ones directly engaged in undermining our health/science institutions to enact good [perhaps not perfect] collective action in order to make a case that only an "uncorrupted strong leader" can take charge during chaotic times.

Isn't this the bozo that went around claiming he invented mRNA vaccines?
