Ask HN: Hiring a Career/Executive Coach

1 points by eaglehead ↗ HN
I just transitioned from running a startup to a big Fortune 500. I am now thinking of how to move further up in my career as an executive.

The challenge is that as a founder, I had a broad set of challenges and responsibilities that I had to learn on the go. I had a lot of flexibility in making decisions and just making things work.

Now in corporate world I am finding it challenging to fit in. A lot of conversations during meetings with SVP/VP level is just too high level (?) and abstract for me.

So thinking of hiring a career/executive coach to help me rewire my brain.

Any ideas on where to start from?

What have you tried so far?

Because without knowing what you have already done and/or what roadblocks got in your way, the advice is going to be exceedingly obvious, such as "google 'executive coach', call them, and talk to them"

I haven't tried much to be honest. Not sure where to start from. I was searching for some book recommendations but feel like an in person coaching route may be better.
