I wish them luck! France has been a model for clean energy for a very long time.
It's not clean energy.

Also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_in_France#Accide...

It's actually another nail in the coffin of nuclear power seeing how France is desperate to buy electricity on the EU market, driving up prices for everyone, because half of their reactors are down.

What did you link us? Electrical failures that cost a couple of million? One exposure with 1/40 of the annual limit?

Lol so dirty

That doesn’t seem very logical. Why would they buy the stupidly expensive power from the market instead of running their own and selling to neighboring countries?

It’s also high time the anti-nuclear crowd goes back to school to learn about statistics. I’m sure coal and gas closing at 1k€ are much better for the planet and the citizens of France /s

The reactors are down for maintenance. Nuclear still provides ~50% of France's power.

As for "Public Citizen":

Bernie Cohen at UPitt once offered to eat 5000mg of pure plutonium, if Ralph Nader would at the same time eat 5000mg of caffeine. Nader didn't take him up on the offer, which is just as well.

From the article:

> France relies on nuclear energy for about 67% of its electricity — more than any other country — and on gas for about 7%.

Also:

> At the moment, 32 of the 56 France's nuclear reactors, all operated by EDF, are shut down for usual maintenance and, in some cases, to repair corrosion problems.

And finally:

> In addition, electricity and gas trading with neighboring Spain and Germany will be strengthened this winter, she said.

In other words, France already has the bulk of the country's energy needs met with nuclear, but they had shut down a few reactors for maintenance. They are going to get them back online before the winter to help supply neighboring countries that have a higher dependency on gas imports from Russia to substitute their energy source.

Basically "FU Russia. EU peeps, France got you covered."
