Ask HN: State of malware in 2022? Share your stories

Hi HN,

Have you had to deal with malware in recent times (last couple of years)? Family devices or at the workplace? Run-of-the-mill ransomware or more advanced attacks? Were they easy to deal with?

I can't recall the last time I have seen an active infection. Probably back in 2003 or so. Share your stories!

I went hunting for shitty websites and the browser bugs they abuse, googling for "free paypal money" and similar unreasonable things, I wasn't careful enough, and the machine started crashing and lagging after a particularly nasty pop-under, i couldn't get this install back to working condition after that (and couldn't trust the install, so formatting time). (Chrome on Manjaro)
