Ask HN: How did you react when you saw Tetris for the first time?

I was impressed, as it was novel for being a purely abstract game without any feeling of an opponent. In the same class as Breakout or Tempest. I don't enjoy it so much as a player, maybe because of how narrow the play field seems. I didn't really get the strategic aspects until I watched my wife play - she excels are sorting games.

I loved it as a small child. Then my mother got a hold of it and was way better than me. Lost interest after that.
