There is a mutual benefit here if Europe becomes a bit less industrialized it can pick up the slack in services, and the United States can do the same the other way around. Together we will both be stronger for it.
Russia doesn't matter in the long run, it won't be even among the 25 largest economies in a decade if they don't make a 180 degree turn getting rid of Putin and everything he stands for. With the brain drain Russia suffered it would still be hard for it to stay relevant.
You seem to want to focus on the damage being done to Russia instead of the damage being done to Europe.
Instead of Europeans focusing on resolving Russians concerns about US interference in Europe's defence policies via NATO, they have decided to acquiesce to the US.
The future will help them decide where their interests and concerns should lie.
BTW what are the services you are talking about, and what are the non-European countries providing such services whose supply of said services has been reduced by the war in Ukraine?
I'm not focusing on Russia, it's the opposite, I'm saying that it's time to forget that they exist.
I'm talking about the EU-US trade balance. In 2021 the EU exported 400 billion EUR worth of goods to the US, and only imported half as much. It's the other way around when it comes to services. This could be an opportunity for both side to catch up.
Why should Europeans give a flying fuck what the Russian mafia want? Should we acquiesce to the concerns of the Sinaloa cartel? Should we meet La Cosa Nostra halfway? Let’s cozy up with the triads!
