Ask HN: Will AI-based codec be the future of video compression?

Watched Two-Minute Paper’s latest video and saw that NVIDIA’s research team was able to push out compression rates much better than h.264. Given that this isn’t yet a fair comparison given that the AI-based version is domain specific, what do people think the future of AI-based video compression will be?
