If OP is the author: has this been part of beta.gouv.fr or is it just coincidentally using open data from the French government?

Hi, I am the author :) no affiliation with the french government, I just thought this particular API would be a cool example to use (IMHO this API is well done).

From an end user perspective, what might be some advantages/disadvantages of this compared to python pandas?

I'm not familiar with pandas but looking at the website it's a data analytics tool? While virtual tables can help for that use case they can do a lot more, especially if writes are available.
