False. Especially if you shop at Costco (bulk quantities).

> Salted butter does not need to be stored in the fridge since the risk of bacterial growth is so low. Studies have shown that butter has a shelf life of many months, even when stored at room temperature ( 6 , 10 ). However, it will stay fresh longer if it is kept in the refrigerator.

It's not false. He didn't say it "should be store at room temperature" in the sense that's the only way to store it, or in the sense that putting it in the fridge wont last longer.

He said "should be store at room temperature" in the sense that that's the best way to store it: that way it still lasts a perfect long time, more than enough to consume (many months - as also noted by the article you noted) AND it's always ready to spread, cook, etc and not cold.

The case about "if you shop at bulk" (which might change the tradeoffs) is not Musk's. For one, I doubt Musk needs to shop at bulk to save money...

(And even if you buy 20 pounds, it will still be consumed in a few months)
