It's disturbing to realize that for so many people things like freedom of speech, cultural tolerance and individualism were merely The Current Thing to "support" only while it was easy, popular and fashionable. Still, I guess it's better than not realizing it.
Well, the one mortal threat to tolerance is intolerance. Rejecting warmongers & fascists is a moral perogative of a society which wishes to remain free.

I do think polarization lets us see threats as worse than they are. But also: there are very real inside insurgent threats to liberal democracy budding up & spreading quickly, at home & abroad.

Is Tchaikovsky warmonging? I could have sworn he died a few years ago.
I would bet that he hasn't read the article.

Should we add communists to that list as well? After all, how else can you seize the means of production, if not through violence? And well Lenin himself said that "Socialism is the road to communism" so then socialists too?

The reality is, the intolerance paradox is non-sensical and only befit to a dystopian world.

Nobody disagrees on the principle. "My list is different than your list" is always the point of contention.

Or maybe the entirety of the US should be cancelled because they voluntarily voted for leaders who can be considered to fall into that category - multiple times.

And the most dangerous warmongers and facists today, may very well believe they are fighting those very same things.

But then again I believe germans in WW2 saw themselves as fighting a war for peace.

> “When I am Weaker Thn You, I ask you for Freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am Stronger than you, I take away your Freedom Because that is according to my principles.”

- Frank Herbet, Children of Dune

I was wondering what the context of that quote was, but I found this:

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Louis_Veuillot

> Misattributed to Veuillot in Children of Dune (1976) by Frank Herbert: "When I am weaker than you, I ask you for freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am stronger than you, I take away your freedom because that is according to my principles."

From the comments:

> The cardiff Orchestra has a Ukranian member. Playing the 1812 was deemed insensitive and upsetting - especially with the cannon fire.

> Future concerts with other Russian music will go ahead as scheduled.
