I posted something similar several months back, which seemed to be met with derision.

Countries could extract a great amount of tax levied on alcohol. It seemed to be far easier to collect, since once people are addicted it’s hard for them to stop.

It’s tricky to get a message across that’s counter to conformational bias, but that has always been an issue.
