The article you linked seems to be a pretty accurate prediction of what happened in the VC space over the past half-decade. They correctly predicted the failure of cryptocurrency and self-driving cars, while also highlighting the stagnation in fields like AI, hardware startups and AR/VR. All of the hype for those sectors got abused years ago, any investor putting money towards "disruptive technology" better have an idea for getting around FAANG.

Of course, things always look different from the sidelines. At the same time though, I think the article you linked is a startlingly correct market analysis for someone to make in 2017.

The first indicator was that he was a journalist.
