Crime, taxes, cost of living. Groupthink. Homelessness. Drugs. Fecal matter. Lack of accountability in public officials.
This has been my experience living in California for the last 10.5 years.
In 2020 California literally tried to rollback Civil Rights era legislation with Prop 16 because it has a preference for particular races and genders that isn’t mine.
He is saying this because the state has started enforcing affordable housing goals for every city with streamlined approvals for developers building to the state's codes, instead of letting 95% of the cities kick the can at each other with red tape and pay-to-play. This inevitably means row houses near his Atherton and Malibu mansions.
Affordable housing with a high density plan isn’t the solution. Making every city liveable by creating networked public transport and robust infrastructure is the solution.
The former strategy of high density will choke liveable cities and make housing even more unaffordable. More tier 3 cities should be raised to the same standard of living as Bay Area cities.
If MA supported high density in Bay Area and then backed off, it’s very peculiar indeed. Inconsistent and doesn’t inspire trust or confidence.
