Not in Vic, but in Qld I was a "victim" of the floods earlier this year. We had total powerloss for 4 days, and no lifts for 10. We lost assets in the carparking.

We always have at LEAST a week and usually a months food in various forms but the weakness here is how much was frozen: we wound up moving deep frozen expensive meat to friends with power, and ate as much as we could of the less robust food to match the 4-10 window because climbing 9 floors of stairs for 60 year olds is a pain.

In broad sense, we could have survived far longer on the dry goods, given water. We had everything we need, if we can cook. If we lost gas, no amount of 3 days would get us there because we don't keep tinned food consumable from the tin. I guess we could have survived on breakfast cereal and cheese.

I am unsure quite how much tinned food I want to keep to meet a 3 day goal, assuming worst-case no gas. I probably would have moved out.

(which of course depends on being ABLE to move out, but I am on the current evidence in fringeing flood land, not deep flood with no connection. I'm in a city. I just got islanded at points, and lost power)

Mate, I can't even imagine what you went through. The desperation in such situations can be suffocating. I don't think we're facing anything even remotely close to that right now in Vic. Sorry, that you'd to go through all that. Nature can be brutal.

I've got a few tuna cans, some chicken in the fridge and salami. Got enough flour and yeast to bake breads. I'm worried that electricity might get disconnected for some time but gas should be okay. In the worst case, I've got a barbie, should be able to cook simple stuff on it. I've charged a few power banks just in case I need it for mobiles phones. Thank you for the comment.

The 28,000maH banks will charge a phone about 5 times. That's huge. I've got one, and an 8,000maH. Some of them can charge macbook. We kept gas, and having hot water and being able to cook is also huge. The barbie will cover for gas failure. You're going to be OK. Maybe a bit smelly and tired.
ohh yes, a phone with few days of standby power just to call for help is more than enough. I'm sure my work can wait if I lose power. haha.. The bbq is an essential tool. I've got a gas bbq and I live close to Bunnings so shouldn't be hard to replace the tank. Also have a small charcoal bbq and a bag of briquettes! Yeah, I'm gonna refrain from showering for a couple of days if the hot water system fails! So far the weather looks okay. We're expecting heavy rain in another few hours. Fingers crossed!
Up here things like binbags and decent rubber and riggers gloves for post flood clean up disappeared fast. Plastic tubs and buckets too. You've done decent prep already, if you have a full BBQ GAS cylinder and matches.

ATM run out of cash and small traders stripe terminals stop running when their phone dies. Either you go to an honour system or have some cash handy.

ohh yes, good tip. Although it's pretty normal in my suburb, but I'll remember this one for future calamities! Thank you.
