What are your experiences and views? Or is it because it is glamorized due to being a fairly new profession?

I have also seen people fade out or not transition/grown at all...

I would say yes, Product Managers make the best CEOs…… Of STARTUPS.

They have a wealth of cross-functional knowledge.

They understand the importance of sales and customer feedback.

They regularly interface with marketing.

They understand resource constraints, realistic timelines, and how to work with the engineering dept.

PMs are well positioned to run startups.

I strongly believe in the next five years *product engineers* will become the most adaptable, hireable and valuable employees in fast moving software orgs. Admittedly not startups.

Full-stack engineers are so 2018, and at this point anyone worth their salt doesn't trust that full-stack engineers actually know the entire stack or the exact stack that's best for your company. Better off being a generalist with some backend knowhow and ability to write borderline JS.

PM's with a technical background are hugely influential - however I think we as an industry need to start shunning MBA's.
