That's well and good, but coming from Quillette, I'm suspect that this is a diffusion of responsibility tactic intended to muddy the waters in a way that accomplishes nothing. Let's give the author the benefit of the doubt; well, what then?
Let's say we agree that equality of opportunity is a shared goal. Are there any responsibilities anyone has to meet that goal? Who exactly has to do anything at all?
It quickly becomes a case where using a "better metric" equates to worse outcomes. But that was sort of the point all along, wasn't it?
