I am still absolutely baffled that publicly funded science is allowed to be put behind a paywall by a for-profit corporation. In my country most professors are paid by the state, their work should be free to use by the public.

I am pretty glad that in some areas (e.g. math with arxiv) papers can just be published freely, without nonsense corporate peer-review and freely accessible to anyone.
