Remember Monochrome Screens?

What happened to them? I remember how much I loved the old screens on the iPod before they went color only, it was washed out and very ugly. The iPod I had would appear crisp and readable in the daytime, has a nice backlight and the battery was good if it didn’t have an HDD. I saw the remarkable topic and just thought about the old ebook readers with monochrome screens. I’d prefer one to eink: fast refresh, visible in the daytime and non distracting.
