I wonder what effect this will have on the gnu/linux community. Will this be a chilling effect, or will there be a boom in updates and software as they transition?

Sidenote, if you are a project maintainer, please do not cripple the worlds use of your code because you disagree with the conflict, as it rather hurts us all.

I doubt if it will have any measurable affect on linux.
I could see the US gov declaring Linux a threat to national security.
Banning Linux would be a threat to national security.
