Ask HN: What to do about Non-CANSPAM compliant emails from YouTube?

12 points by exabrial ↗ HN
I've got several marketing emails from Google/YouTube that have no unsubscribe option. These are product announcement emails, which _must_ have an unsubscribe option per US Law as they are by their nature, marketing.

Considering the pace of these is increasing, how can we put a stop before this practice spreads like wildfire?

Make an email filter and move on. You can't put a stop to it.
Maybe you could try routing the emails through an account registered in a country with stronger anti-spam protections?
File an arbitration case (assuming your bound by Google's arbitration clause) or file a small claims court case.

Many jurisdictions have increased small claims case limits to $20k.

As an individual, you have no rights under CAN-SPAM. I suppose you could file a complaint with the FTC and your state attorney general. Your state might also have an anti-spam law with more rights but CAN-SPAM pre-empted some of them.
Nothing. The government is toothless against the likes of Google. Filter it and move on.
